One ‘Ohana

The last One ’Ohana for this school year is today May 23rd at 12 noon. Lunch will be served from the kitchen. We will gather in the tent to eat. The opening exercise will begin at 12:40PM. Father Lio will lead the general sections of this One ’Ohana. He will also facilitate the Adult session of the age-related activities.

Beginning any new program has its ups and downs. Therefore, we have an evaluation sheet where parishioners who are familiar with the One ’Ohana can offer their comments and their ideas. We, the Core Committee, know that there are many things we can do to make this run more smoothly for our young children and adolescents. Hearing from you can make doing this easier. We also need volunteers to help on the day of the event or to assist behind the scenes. The evaluations are anonymous unless you wish to sign them.

If you didn’t receive a family home kit and you want to write an evaluation, please pick one up in the Parish Office.

When all the pieces are put together, this is a huge ministry. It is our plan to make everything we do family-oriented. That will require many hands, many minds, and many hearts joining in prayer and work.

Everyone will receive a calendar of events in their bulletin. Please post these dates somewhere in your home so that you can plan to participate. The next time we will meet together is at the St. Michael’s Day Celebration on September 26, 2010.

Vacation Bible School

The Vacation Bible School will be held from Monday, July 19th to Friday, July 23rd at Immaculate Conception Hall. You may drop the children between 9AM and 9:30AM. The opening prayer and small group Bible sessions will begin at 9:30AM.

You may pick your child up anytime between 3PM and 3:30PM. The actual program with activities will be from 9:30 to 3PM.

We have had several requests to have a pre-school program for children 3 and 4 year olds. That program has its own separate curriculum. With two volunteers specifically for that program, we can accommodate 6 children. Shirley David will be the lead teacher for 3 and 4 year olds. This program will run from 9:30 to 12:30. The little ones will be fed lunch before they are picked up to go home.

Groups will be divided in the following way: K-1, 2-3, 4-5-6, and older children who want to help with the younger children.

This program, as small as it is, requires many volunteers to make it work for the children. At the present time, we have six volunteers. Please think about volunteering a day, or a half day or even an hour. We need  Bible group leaders, activity leaders for crafts, storytelling, music, science, and games. Then, there is lunch and snacks to prepare.

The theme for this year will be the Baobab Tree in Africa. Each day will have a particular theme; trust, care, share, love and follow. There will be a Bible story of the day based on one of those themes and the children will learn about a new saint everyday.  The activities will be centered around life in Africa and the jungle.

Registration forms are available in the Parish Office. We ask for a donation of $20/family to enable us to purchase supplies, food, etc. If you can afford to give more, that is great, also.

We sincerely look forward to providing this opportunity for our children. It will be a Baobab Blast!  Cynthia M. Taylor 960-0734

Upcoming Infant Baptism Session

The next Baptism Session will be held Sunday, June 20th at St. Michael’s. Please call the parish office to request that a Baptism form be sent to you.  Parents and their children must attend the 11am Mass that morning, but we ask that you please arrive no later than 10:45am in order to sit at the front. A presentation of the parents and the children to be baptized will be done by the priest, and then he will anoint the children with the Oil of Catechumens.  If you are late to the Mass and you miss this part of the Baptism ceremony, you will not able to have your child baptized the following weekend.

Immediately following the Mass, parents and godparents must attend the Baptism Class, which will be held at 12:15pm in Kamiano Hall. If the godparents are from another parish, they must attend a Baptism Class in their home parish and their priest must send a letter to our office confirming that they attended the class.  Please note that at least one godparent must be a practicing Catholic. If the other godparent is not Catholic, he or she must be a Christian witness (please take special note of the sheet included in the Baptism information packet, “Choosing Godparents”).  If you should have any questions, please call Susan.
