The Gospel of Luke is about the journey, about conversion and hope. In today’s Gospel, Jesus is again on His journey to Jerusalem where He will die. As usual, He is teaching and healing as He goes. In this story, Jesus is not telling us we cannot be saved. He simply lets us know that there is hard work, suffering, and pain involved in the process. The opportunity is there for each of us to enter but the door is narrow. The most encouraging bit of news for us is that Jesus is with us making all things possible, even the most difficult things in our lives. Ordinary Time is a liturgical season made just for us to work on our personal conversion to the spirit of the Gospel.
Please remember Fr. John Fredy and the Quintero family in your prayers. Last Saturday, Father received word that one of his eight brothers was killed in a motorcycle accident. Father is a man of great personal faith and strength, but being so far from his family at this time has to be painful. We are his family away from home.
I hope to see as many of you as possible next Friday evening at the “With Grateful Hearts Concert.” Dinner will begin at 5pm. Come also to congratulate our Living Treasures of the West Hawaii Vicariate.
In two weeks, we will begin registering our families for One ‘Ohana (Religious Education) Program. The registration form is also available on the website (http://onecatholicohana.org/one-ohana/register-for-one-ohana.html) and can be filled out and submitted electronically. Get a head start today.
Peace in Christ,
Fr. Lio
