Today is Mothers’ Day. We pray for all our mothers, both all who are living and those who are enjoying eternal life. We thank them for the care and the love they have given us.
Today is also the day when our children will receive the Eucharist for the first time. In their innocence, I hope that their “hearts are burning within them.” I pray that in the breaking of the Bread today, they will recognize that Jesus is with them always to love and support them in their daily lives.
On Tuesday, we honor St. Damien of Molokai. We are fortunate to have a canonized saint who lived on these islands and served the people of Hawaii. We are all hopeful that it will not be long before our State is blessed again with the canonization of another saint. This time it will be a woman. Her name is Mother Marianne Cope. She was a member of the Sisters of St. Francis. This is the same community of Sisters who staffed St. Joseph’s School in Hilo for so many years. On Wednesday, May 11th, we will honor her at a Mass at Annunciation Church in Waimea at 6pm.
On Saturday, May 14th, St. Michael’s will host the Vicariate Confirmation Mass. Please join us for this happy occasion. There are 32 young men and women from four of the parishes in West Hawaii who will be Confirmed.
Peace be with you!
