Dear Parishioners,

We are continuing to negotiate with the architect and the builder about construction. I will give you information as I continue to study our options. We all want a church quickly but whatever options we have must be carefully thought out.

In just a few weeks, we will embark on the journey of learning together the Introductory Rites of the revised translation of the Mass. Presently we participate without giving much thought to what we are saying. The revised translation will help us see more clearly the connection between the Scriptures and the Mass prayers. It will help us understand more precisely why we pray, why we hope, and how we present ourselves to God.

The Introductory Rites occur after the Entrance Procession and the singing of the Entrance Hymn or Chant. The priest makes the Sign of the Cross and with extended hands, he greets the people. Our response to the greeting is “And with your spirit.” The priest presents the Introduction to the Mass, followed by the Penitential Act, the Kyrie if it was not part of the Penitential Act, the Gloria, and the Collect (prayer).

There will be bulletin inserts and a variety of other ways to introduce us to the revised translation. We will also have an opportunity to learn the music associated with the new translation. This will enable everyone to enter into full participation in the Mass. Again, all of this is an unprecedented opportunity for the entire assembly to grow in our love and appreciation of the Mass.

Peace in Christ,
