For most of our children, a new school year has just begun. Our best wishes and prayers go to students, parents and teachers for a fruitful year.
We continue to familiarize you with the revised translation of the Roman Missal. Last week, I listed the elements which make up the Introductory Rites of the Mass. One thing that you will all notice is that there is a change in the response to the Greeting. Whether the priests says:
1. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion with the Holy Spirit be with you all OR
2. Grace to you and peace from God Our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. OR
3. The Lord be with you.
The people’s response is always: And with your spirit.
Again, when the Gospel is announced, the priest will greet the people with the words, The Lord be with you.
The people will respond, And with your spirit.
There is one small change also when the Gospel is announced. The people now say Glory to You, O Lord.
There are a number of significant changes in the Profession of Faith. Next week, I will include some of the changes you will experience. We will work together to put these changes in place. I am grateful for your attention to these changes. They will not occur until the first Sunday of Advent, but all parishes in the United States have been asked to use these months to prepare. The changes will all be in Breaking Bread when the 2012 edition is published.
God bless you,
