First Sunday of Advent
Today, the First Sunday of Advent, we are invited to begin anew. It is a new Liturgical Year. The color has changed from the green of Ordinary Time to Violet for the four weeks of Advent. The Readings for the next several weeks call our attention to the events preceding and surrounding the Incarnation of Jesus. Nothing can be compared to the miracle of the Word Made Flesh. However, during the Season of Advent we anticipate not only the birthday of Jesus, but the coming of Christ into our lives in the Word, in the Eucharist and the final coming of Christ in glory. It is a new year of grace. Let us all take advantage of this opportunity to renew our full participation in the Paschal Mystery.
Today, we also begin using the Third Edition of the Roman Missal. For the past four months, we have been preparing for the changes in the translation in the Mass. It will take awhile for us all to adjust, so please be patient. Each week, it will get a little easier.
Thanks to all who brought their gifts of food to Mass on Thanksgiving Day. We were able to collect large baskets of nonperishable food for the poor. Most of us enjoy an abundance of food, while others go hungry. As an Advent project, please help the poor in our foreign missions by taking an ornament from the Giving Tree and making your donation.
Peace in Christ,
