The Nativity of the Lord

The Nativity of the Lord

Peace to all of you this Christmas.  We have spent the past four weeks preparing; now it is time to rejoice and celebrate the Nativity of the Lord.  This is the season when families come together and express in many ways, both large and small, the love they share.  Past hurts are forgotten, at least for a week.  All around us we see others wanting to give whether it is material gifts or gifts of their time and talent.  As our hearts are touched by the melodies and words of Christmas carols and the Nativity scenes under our beautifully decorated trees, we cannot help but reflect on the magnanimous love of Our Heavenly Father for us.  In the fullest measure of love, the Father gave His Only Begotten Son in human flesh to teach us the true meaning of love.

Jesus is forever with us in the Eucharist.  Outside of the Mass, He is always there in the tabernacle waiting for us to visit.  He needs a permanent home at St. Michael’s, however, where parishioners and tourists can visit during the day.  This will happen only when we are able to build our Church.  It has been a long, sometimes painful, process which requires significant personal sacrifice.  There will be an end to this struggle, however, because we will have prayed faithfully and worked together to overcome every obstacle the last six years have presented.  I am optimistic that 2012 will be a good year for St. Michael’s.  We will see progress.

I wish all of you a Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Peace in Christ,
