Before anything else, I wish to thank you for your contribution to the Carmelite Monastery in Samoa.  Your generosity will allow us to send $5,000 to my Auntie, Sister Antonina Maria, for the upkeep of her Sisters.  The Sisters wear a simple habit and eat sparingly.  Fasting is an important part of the Carmelite’s life.  A Carmelite nun sleeps in a very small, plain bedroom called a cell.  You can see for yourself that the Sisters make the money given to them stretch farther than most of us could.

Wednesday is Ash Wednesday.  As the ashes are placed on our foreheads we will hear the words “Repent, and believe in the Good News.”  Let these ashes be a reminder to us of the temporary nature of this life.  We need constantly to prepare for life in the Kingdom.   Ash Wednesday is our call to forty days of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving.  What will we offer?

As part of our Lenten prayer, we will gather each Friday at St. Michael’s for Stations of the Cross.  Stations start on February 24th at 5:30PM and will be followed by a simple meal to which all of you are invited.  Please try to attend.

Don’t forget to pick up a bag of malasadas today after Mass.  Proceeds from the sale of the malasadas will go to the Youth and to the Building Fund.

Plans for ground breaking continue to be developed by all parties involved.  We are presently waiting for the final estimate from the builder; several revisions to the architect’s plan resulting from value engineering, and final approval from the County.

Peace in Christ,
