This year, we are pleased to have six children and one adult preparing to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. For those who may have forgotten, they are the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. The catechumens have been studying with their catechists every week since September, and today, they are prepared to take the next important step. Each, with their godparent, will be called forth to sign the Book of the Elect. The Rite of Election is the last phase the individual goes through before receiving the Sacraments. They are now entering a period of enlightenment and purification. I would ask the community to pray for them, for their parents, and for their godparents. I am especially grateful to the parents and grandparents who have helped bring the children to this point in their commitment to the Faith.
Since September, we have had two Christian adults come into full participation in the Catholic Church. Two more are ready to receive the Eucharist for the first time in early April. These adults do not have to go through RCIA. They are already baptized in another Christian denomination or in the Catholic Church. They study individually with a catechist and when they are ready, they are received into the Church.
I realize that you are anxious to hear more about the church. I can assure you that progress continues steadily but the focus is completing engineering drawings and shoring up details before we go out to bid the project. Meanwhile, many of you have seen the rock artist working on the lawn across from the tent. This is the Big Island rock that is being carved to be the baptismal font for the new church. When finished, it will be magnificent although it is difficult to picture now. Be sure to go over and look at it while Tom is not working on it.
Peace in Christ,
Fr. Lio
